Guam Scuba Diving

I have been awfully busy exploring the waters and trails of Guam lately. My scuba diving adventures have led to plenty of sea creatures and some beautiful sites. Lots of turtles, coral, and fish combine for plenty to see. I have been doing more short diving for the past few weeks; these dives have been surprisingly fun and relaxing. Sometimes on the boat dives there seems to be such a rush to get to the boat, get to the site, dive, and then return. I think the shore dives are a little more relaxed because there is no time rush. San Luis Beach has been one of my favorite dives so far. Having been to the seaplanes during my Advanced Open Water Class, I entered through the beach this time. The giant rock formations a little ways from the beach are really cool. We then followed the reef towards Gab Gab Beach. A lot of the living coral was actually a bit shallower. The snorkel back to San Luis Beach was really cool with lots of living coral and a turtle to accompany us.

Gab Gab II was a pretty cool dive. Luckily, there was a dive float at the site, so we didn’t have to navigate by compass or kick counts to the site. After the dive, someone asked us if the dive float had a name on it; hopefully, nobody was missing from that dive site. We basically swam in a circle around some coral at 60 feet beneath the surface. There were pretty standard coral and fish in this area. Gab Gab I was pretty cool also; it was a wall of coral with fish.

We attempted Old Wives’ Beach one day, but I didn’t have a good feeling about that one. I guess it was a combination of nobody actually being at the beach, the open ocean very close by the site, and nobody was actually familiar with the dive site. It just seemed like a bad combination.

Family Beach was a really cool dive. There is coral and then some old jeeps and trucks around 70 feet. There was an eel in one of the structures, and a turtle gave us a show as well while we were swimming along the coral.

These are most of the shore dives I have enjoyed over the last few weeks. I may need to return to the boat dives to satisfy my longing for adventure and large sea creatures. I did read The Flight of The Cormoran recently, so I definitely want to dive the SMS Cormoran and Tokai Maru in the near future.
